Jill Scott, the daughter of Joyce Scott in Philadelphia Pennsylvania was born April 4th April 1972. The family of Jill Scott consisted of both her grandmother and mother. Scott is an all-only child. Scott completed her studies at her school, the Philadelphia High School for Girls. She then enrolled at Temple University. In between two job opportunities as a teacher, she was studying secondary education. Her goal was to be a teacher of English in a secondary school. However, she was not able to achieve her dream, however, when after studying for three years and working as a teaching assistant, she quit college. She started her career doing live performances of poems as well as writing her own material. Then she joined forces along with Amir Quest Thompson, a member of The Roots. The two ended up working together and co-writing You Got Me. The singer performed at a Roots concert. Afterwards she was able to get collaborations with artists like Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. Additionally, she gained experience as a performer on the Canada tour of the Broadway musical Rent. She was also the first signing agent for Hidden Beach Recordings.
